Sport: Martial Arts
General commentary:
Martial Artists subject their body to some of the greatest stresses of any athletes. The fast dynamic motions, repetitive training, and impact encountered can lead to many injuries.
Common Injuries: Bruises, contusions, strains, sprains, tendonitis, broken
bones, and dislocations.
How to avoid Injury:
• Applying ice or cold to an injury as soon as possible after it occurs acts as a minor miracle as it greatly reduces healing time.
• Massage can also help to reduce the occurrence of injury by promoting tissue health and early detection of problems before they progress to something serious
Mini home treatment:
• Apply ice for ten minutes at regular intervals for the first seventy two hours after injury. Use a towel as a barrier between skin & ice
• Use a menthol muscle rub to vigorously get muscles ready for activity, and again more gently post workout.
When to see a specialist:
Any time you hear or feel a 'crack', or experience blackouts... that's hospital time. For the muscular & joint issues a Registered Massage Therapist can be your best friend, as they can spot trouble, and keep you well, reducing down time between workouts.
