Soft Tissue Self-release Techniques Workshop Series
“Soft Tissue Self-release Techniques” workshop series has been developed by the Sutherland-Chan Centre to expand the knowledge and understanding of soft tissue self-massage techniques for personal trainers and their clients and to teach how to effectively use this hands-on approach for common trouble areas. Throughout the workshops, specific direct and indirect techniques will be demonstrated addressing both the upper and lower quadrants of the body. The workshops will involve both lecture and practical hands-on application.

Soft Tissue Self-release Techniques – Introduction for Personal Trainers
Part I: Lower Body
The manipulation of the muscles, tendons and fascia of the body is a popular remedy for both maintenance and for injury-specific treatment. Soft Tissue Self-release Techniques are very effective in maintaining the health of soft tissues between or during physical activities. These techniques include direct kneading on soft tissues and indirect methods. When done correctly, soft tissue self release techniques can alleviate soft tissue pain, hypertonicity and fascial adhesions. This enhances blood circulation and the health of the related soft tissues.
During the workshop trainers will review the lower body anatomy (bones, muscles, and soft tissue); experience hands-on techniques for structures during personal training; learn how to teach clients to use these techniques on troubled areas; contraindications for self massage/soft tissue techniques; and to enhance and develop a safe personal training environment for both trainer and clients alike. The workshop will focus from the pelvis down looking at gluteus, piriformis, hip flexors, quadriceps, hamstrings and lower limb muscles.
